Road Tax Calculator Singapore

Short answer

Singapore road tax is set by LTA from your car's engine capacity (petrol or diesel) or motor power (electric), using a fixed 6-monthly formula times 0.782. A 1,600cc car is about S$743 a year; a 110kW EV about S$1,560 including the flat component.

Estimate the annual road tax for a Singapore car from its engine capacity or, for an EV, its motor power rating — using LTA’s published formula.

How it is calculated

Road tax is a recurring fee paid to LTA to keep a car on the road. LTA publishes 6-monthly rates; the annual figure is simply twice that. For petrol, petrol-hybrid, CNG and diesel cars, the 6-monthly amount is based on engine capacity (EC) in cc, then multiplied by the factor 0.782 currently in force (LTA Vehicle Tax Structure):

Engine capacity (cc) 6-monthly road tax
EC ≤ 600 $200 × 0.782
600 < EC ≤ 1,000 [$200 + $0.125 × (EC − 600)] × 0.782
1,000 < EC ≤ 1,600 [$250 + $0.375 × (EC − 1,000)] × 0.782
1,600 < EC ≤ 3,000 [$475 + $0.75 × (EC − 1,600)] × 0.782
EC > 3,000 [$1,525 + $1 × (EC − 3,000)] × 0.782

Each band charges a higher marginal rate only on the capacity above its floor — like income-tax brackets — so crossing a boundary (for example from 1,600cc to 1,601cc) starts a new, dearer bracket.

Fully electric cars have no engine capacity, so road tax uses the maximum motor power rating (PR) in kW on the same shape of formula, plus an Additional Flat Component (AFC) of S$350 every 6 months (S$700 a year):

Power rating (kW) 6-monthly road tax
PR ≤ 7.5 $200 × 0.782
7.5 < PR ≤ 30 [$200 + $2 × (PR − 7.5)] × 0.782
30 < PR ≤ 230 [$250 + $3.75 × (PR − 30)] × 0.782
PR > 230 [$1,525 + $10 × (PR − 230)] × 0.782

A car more than 10 years old pays a surcharge on its road tax: 10% from 10–11 years, rising in 10-point steps to 50% once it is more than 14 years old. Petrol-electric (hybrid) cars pay the higher of the engine-capacity and power-rating results.

Worked example (illustrative)

A 1,600cc petrol car under 10 years old: [$250 + $0.375 × (1,600 − 1,000)] × 0.782 = $371.45 per 6 months, so about S$742.90 a year. A 110kW electric car: [$250 + $3.75 × (110 − 30)] × 0.782 = $430.10 per 6 months (S$860.20 a year) plus the S$700 AFC, for about S$1,560.20 a year. These reproduce LTA’s own worked figures.

Limits of this estimate

  • It covers road tax only — not the separate Special Tax that diesel and diesel-CNG cars pay (based on emission standard), nor off-peak-car concessions.
  • It uses the 0.782 factor currently in force; LTA has changed this multiplier before.
  • Your car’s registered power rating (not a marketing horsepower figure) and exact engine capacity decide the band — check your registration details.
  • For the authoritative amount, use the official figure on the LTA road tax page.
